4  HOUSING TRENDS IN A STILL UNCERTAIN MARKET

The roller coaster is nearly over. After a decade of extremes — the highs of the real estate boom and the devastating lows of the bust — calmer times are starting to occur in the housing market.

The huge drop off in home values, which has taken the median price of a house down almost 30% since 2006, should be in its final stages in many places. Three-quarters of the nation’s 384 metropolitan areas will see prices down less than 5% a year from now, according to projections from Fiserv and Moody’s Economy.com while 10% seem set for modest increases. Even good ol’ Uncle Sam is lending a hand with programs designed to help shore up the market.

In this quieter environment lie new challenges and opportunities for all involved. Home buyers, sellers, owners, and investors are finally not completely at the mercy of market forces: You are in control of how much you make.  Homebuyer tax credit: Still no e-file plus four-month delays

Good news homebuyers! You can file for your $8,000 first-time buyer tax credit again. Now the bad news, You still can’t e-file your taxes if you want the cash, and there are still long delays.

CNNMoney revealed that buyers who purchased their properties after

Nov. 6, 2009 were unable to claim the refund because the Internal Revenue Service had yet to release a new form and instructions. However, the IRS finally posted the new form 5405.

The two-month delay is frustrating to many because they were counting on getting their tax refund money in a timely manner to make new purchases.

The four month delay is a problem that should be fixed.
